Cottage Style Porch Makeover- the Reveal

It’s here, it’s here! I’ve been waiting a long time for this post (and to have a usable back porch!). Even though the rest of the backyard still isn’t complete, at least I have a pretty and roomy back porch to enjoy. Ready to see the reveal of my cottage style porch makeover?

Cottage Style Back Porch Makeover

Before I share all the “after” details, let me remind you what it looked like when we moved in.

The porch was small but it had potential. The yard seemed super small with the chain link fence, but it had potential. I saw the vision, and hopefully I’m one big step closer to my dream back yard.

You can see all about the design plan for our cottage style porch HERE.

List of To-Do’s to complete for our Cottage style backyard makeover:

  • Remove chain link fence
  • Remove extra bushes
  • Remove old pavers
  • Cover up grinder well
  • Cover up the grinder pump well light with an outdoor screen
  • Level the yard
  • Fix the well pump and add sprinkler system
  • Sod most of backyard
  • Extend the back porch
  • Paint the porch ceiling white

Let me share some in progress pictures;

We finally have a roof and I painted it this weekend!

We have fans thanks to the handy hubby for his electrical skills.

The last thing on the porch to do list was to add a little stain so you wouldn’t know that there was an “old and new” porch.

I used a product from Australian Timber Oil and had Ace Hardware mix it into a color called “Caribbean Walnut.”

Even though I’ve titled this post Cottage style outdoor makeover- the reveal, it isn’t really the final reveal.

The back porch is done, but we still have more to do as far as installing irrigation, adding sod, and finishing up a few things around the grinder pump. It’s coming…..

Since this post I’ve installed some indoor curtains outside without drilling holes.

For now I’m excited to share some final pictures of our outdoor cottage style porch makeover.

I LOVE this swing! Nothing says “come on over and sit a while” like a good porch swing. You won’t believe what it looked like BEFORE I got a hold of it. You can see all the details HERE.

I had to add a little green to the porch! You can see how I gave this new terra cotta pot a vintage look with paint HERE.

The Gold Lanterns; I picked these up from Big Lots on clearance for $5! I could not find them online, but I’ve linked some that look similar below.

Outdoor Ceiling fan– the lady at Lowe’s said for the money that these are the best fans you can buy. They might not be the best looking, but they put out a lot of air which is much needed here in the deep south. You can say I chose function over form for this one.

That’s a wrap for this project (Hallelujah!)

I think that it all looks great. I like the pop of color that the rug adds and it makes sense with the curtains. Enjoy your outside space. I always enjoy seeing the things that you do.

I love it all, except for the blue chequered ‘rug’.
I feel it is too bold, and draws the eye away from all the other lovely natural tones. Only my opinion of course, but I would have chosen a more natural/ neutral one, eg seagrass.
