Modern Wallpaper Accent Wall in the Bathroom

See how a wallpaper accent wall in this bathroom makes the room pop! The accent wall behind the bathroom vanity takes it from drab to fab in under 2 hours.

I was worried that the “wallpaper accent wall trend” was going to be a quick fad. It started getting popular maybe five or six years ago and it’s still going strong! I don’t think this wallpaper trend is going anywhere anytime soon.

A friend of mine was renovating her bathroom and wanted some help with a peel and stick wallpaper accent wall. She previously used tile to accent the area right above the counter. She quickly decided she didn’t like it and wanted a full accent wall of wallpaper instead.

I love the modern look she was going for with the floating blue vanity and the vessel sink. I think wallpaper was the perfect choice to finish this space!

The first thing we (or she) did was smooth the drywall where the old tile was.

The wall already had a layer of drywall mud on it when I got there. All it needed was a good sanding.

After we sanded it down and cleaned up all the dust and debris, it was time to get to work.

I love how well the wallpaper ties the entire room together!

I mentioned earlier that the wallpaper was peel and stick. I LOVE peel and stick wallpaper. It’s easy on and easy off! Well, it’s easy for the most part. What I mean is that you don’t have to deal with the old wallpaper mud like you used to when having to apply wallpaper. Also, if you ever want to remove it, it doesn’t destroy the sheetrock as bad as wallpaper mud does.

My biggest tip when hanging wallpaper is to make sure the first panel is completely level and straight! If the first one is off by just a tiny bit, the entire wall will be messed up. So measure and level and then measure and level again just to be sure!

Working around that light fixture was a pain! We eventually had to overlap the wallpaper because I cut a big chunk out (that I should NOT have) and I just couldn’t get the dang wallpaper to line up perfectly!

We ended up going with it because we knew a mirror would sit over the seam that wasn’t totally perfect anyway. You can’t win ’em all right?

I never thought the blue would look so good against the black tile, but my friend brought the colors together beautifully!

I love how the vessel sink and the clear knobs accent the blue and black tones.

THIS wallpaper from Amazon really matches the space and brings all the rest of the elements together. Funny how a good feature wall can do that!
