Honestly, does anyone really decorate for a season other than Christmas? Other than throwing a few pumpkins around at Halloween, who has time to rearrange their decor every time a new season rolls around? Can “changing your decor” with the seasons be effortless? I think it can, and I hope to help you with a few quick tips on how to take a few seconds to decorate for fall.
A cozy home used to always consist of a home with lots of great artwork and pieces on the wall. Today, though, it seems that the style is trending more towards decorative signs with writings having to do with the seasons. Seriously, how hard is it to throw a sing up on your mantel or shelves! If it’s not in your budget to buy a “seasonal sign,” it can be super inexpensive to make one. This was one of the easiest signs I have ever made for our FALL TABLE SCAPE.
I’ll highlight a few ways I’ve found to decorate a lovely space that won’t take much time OR money.
Table of Contents
How do you decorate for fall on a budget?
One of the easiest ways I have found to create a warm and inviting Fall decor is with signs.
How to create a seasonal chalkboard sign
Materials to complete this sign:
- a scrap piece of wood
- chalkboard paint
- chalk
- Paint 2 or 3 coats of chalkboard paint on a scrap piece of wood and let dry
- Use chalk to write a fun seasonal message like “Happy Fall y’all”
- Change the saying up with the different seasons
Y’all, this was virtually a free project (I had all materials on hand), and I can erase the writing and change it up with whatever new saying I want depending on the season.
Decorating with pumpkins for fall
Just because Halloween has come and gone, doesn’t mean you can’t still decorate with a few pumpkins! I think white pumpkins with a little greenery add warmth to any space. Now, just because I still have a few small white pumpkins on display, doesn’t mean I agree with keeping the big orange pumpkins out! When Halloween comes and goes, the big orange pumpkins should come and go to.
As a side note, you can see more inspiration about decorating with Mason Jars here.
For my FALL TABLE SCAPE though, I still keep a few of the white pumpkins for added fall touches. It doesn’t hurt to keep these out of storage until after Thanksgiving. Anybody with me here or am I just crazy?
One more thing about those little white pumpkins; don’t they add so much character to a FALL TABLE SETTING!
If you haven’t noticed, I have some recurring themes in my fall decor to create a cozy environment:
- greenery
- Warm colors like browns and earth tones
- pops of white
One thing to note when decorating anything for a certain season; try to keep consistent with a simple color scheme.
This year, in most of my fall decor, I’ve stayed with a color scheme of green (mainly greenery), brown (neutrals with wood) and a touch of white or blue.
This really creates a cohesive and eye pleasing environment.
My last piece of fall inspiration is my entryway. I wanted to show you this space, because I believe it encompasses all the elements you need to create a warm and inviting space, especially for the fall and winter months.
A few must-have pieces that created a warm environment for this space included a cozy throw, some fall greenery, and a pillow. It’s funny how any space can be completely transformed by throwing a blanket and some throw pillows on it. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Elements that create an inviting fall decorated home
- decorative signs
- greenery
- a few fall touches such as white pumpkins
- pillows
- blankets or throws
To help you out a little, I’ve found some of these key elements at a fair price. I love Amazon because I can find so many great decorating pieces at a steal! Here are a few below that would bring warmth and a “fall flair” to any space.

Not bad at all! Most people don’t.

Lovely table! I like to keep my neutral pumpkins on display until Thanksgiving also. Thank you for sharing with us at Celebrate Your Story, and have a great weekend.
Lovely ideas! I love a white pumpkin, they just look so cute and they’re so easy to style with other things. And the chalkboard idea is great – I have all of those things to hand at home too. Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
I wish it only took me seconds to write a new phrase on a chalkboard. Unfortunately, I have terrible handwriting and end up spending way too much time trying to get it to look just right. ???? Thanks so much for sharing at the #happynowlinkup!
I barely even decorate for Christmas, mostly because I hate having to put it all away again. I love your ideas because they’re so easy to do! #ThatFridayLinky
I’m afraid apart from switching out the contents of some jars we have on the dining room table don’t really do any seasonal decorating apart from Christmas. I like these quick and easy ideas. everything looks beautiful
Cute ideas, I need 10 minute decorating. I like seeing it, just don’t want to take the time to actually do it. simple works for me!
Using signs to decorate is a great idea! Thanks for sharing at The Blogger’s Pit Stop! Roseann from http://www.thisautoimmunelife.com
I normally go for more of the fall color look. Really liking the softer fall version you have show here. Found you on Bloggers Pit Stop.
So stylish! And, for someone who openly admits to not having much style, it’s great to see how a few simple items can transform a space ad create a really lovely centre piece. The chalkboard sign even sounds within even my limited capabilities #stayclassymama
You’ve created a really beautiful autumnal theme there with quite simple but effective tips. I’ve never seen a white pumpkin but they look brilliant for this time of year. Thanks for linking to #DreamTeam x
How very pretty and simple, thanks for the ideas
We only ever decorate for Christmas and even then it’s only really the tree. Love these looks though – the sign is fab #sharingthebloglove
I love the sign idea! It sounds really easy to do and it looks great. It’s good to have something that you could use for lots of things. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

Some lovely easy ideas! x #SharingtheBlogLove
I love the nude undertones of the decor, not too in-your-face orange as is everything these days. Beautifully done. #dreamteam
I love decorating for fall, and yes I leave my pumpkins out until after Thanksgiving. I just add a few turkeys and pilgrims. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Some great ideas. I really love your colour scheme for Fall!
These look amazing. So simple, yet so effective. Love them. #Brilliantblogposts
I have to totally agree with your ideas… it really is so fast and easy to decorate for fall. But I have to say your colors you choose are my fav but they would not be my husbands fav he loves some orange in it too.
I especially love your entry way decor. Pinned for future use. What kind of chalk did you use on your sign?
🙂 gwingal
I actually used a chalk pen. Regular chalk is hard to write with, but the chalk pen works wonders!
I love the Autumn season. I live in New England and it is the prettiest time of year here. I really like the idea of the chalkboard sign. What a great idea!
Everything is so pretty and you make it look so easy! Thank you for joining The Really Crafty Link Party. Pinned!
I love the classiness of this particular fall décor. Not that I don’t like the color orange, but it’s nice to see a cleaner look. (If that makes any sense?) Beautiful décor! Dropping by from #HappyNowLinkup

Hi Lindsey, I never decorate our home other than for Christmas, but I do think it looks nice and inviting when someone does. I do like the chalkboard idea, so simple and easy to update. And pumpkins are a proper autumnal decoration even after Halloween.
